It was day 1 in Singapore, and the first order of business (after hunting for a hearty bowl of ramen) was to go shopping in the famous fashion district of Singapore, Orchard Road!
We made our way to Orchard Road via MRT. (kudos to Singapore for a clean and very hassle free transit!) The first mall we encountered was the crowned “Best Mall of Orchard Road”, Ion Orchard.
Christmas was exactly three days away. We got lost in the last-minute gift shopping commotion and the many twists and turns of the mall for awhile, until we finally found ourselves outside in Orchard Road. It was just as I saw in the pictures, but even better and grander than I imagined!
The holiday season was in the air and everywhere as colorful lights and tall Christmas trees dressed in shiny ornaments where put up in all places possible to make Orchard as festive as it could be. Different statues and street art were showcased in front of shops as well, attracting the attention of lots of citizens and tourists who stopped by to take pictures. I found it thrilling and somehow comforting to be in that kind of atmosphere, especially whenever we crossed the street at the pedestrian lane. We went with and against the flow of a swarm of people going to and fro the many blocks of malls. It was a crazy kind of calm, with jolly Christmas music fading in the background, muffled by the noise of busy shoppers.
It was slightly drizzling while we roamed around the district, but it didn’t dull our spirits. We went “mall-hoping” – in and out of a dozen of shopping centers for an entire day. We had such a great time, and you know what was even greater?
It was the SALE SEASON!!!
